1978年5月20日，新东京国际机场建成通航；2002年4月，新东京国际机场第二跑道启用；2004年4月1日，新东京国际机场正式更名为成田国际机场；2009年10月，成田国际机场第二跑道北延启用；2015年4月，成田国际机场T3航站楼启用 。截至2020年7月，成田国际机场共有3座航站楼，其中T1航站楼面积46.3万平方米，T2航站楼面积39.1万平方米，T3航站楼面积12.3万平方米；航空货站面积28.6万平方米，民航站坪设171个机位；共2条跑道，一条长4000米，一条长2500米。2019年，成田国际机场共完成旅客吞吐量4434.4739万人次，同比增长4.0%，日本排名第2位；货邮吞吐量203.9905万吨，同比下降7.0%，日本排名第1位；飞机起降26.4115万架次，同比增长4.0%，日本排名第2位
